Awesome books with awesome covers from here.
I'm pretty bad about finishing books. Unless it's something like Harry Potter or Twilight (yes, I'm one of those people) that really sucks you in, I get distracted after a few chapters and stop reading even if I'm enjoying the book. In high school I was very bad and stopped reading both "The Poisonwood Bible" and "Till We Have Faces" with only 2 or 3 chapters left. I just got to a point where I stopped even though they are both great books. I've probably started "Brave New World" about 5 times. Several months ago I started it and then stopped about half way through. But then a few nights ago I decided that I was determined to finish it. I remember most of what was going on so I just picked up from the middle and I finished it in about 2 days. I'll tell you, I felt an amazing amount of relief and accomplishment upon finishing that! So now I'm on a let's finish all the books I've ever started kick. There are a few exceptions, like "Catch-22." Two years ago on a trip to California I read about 1/5 of the book on the plane rides and I had to force myself to concentrate on it. Then finally during the last hour of the ride on the way home I started to understand the author's style and sense of humor, and I really began to appreciate it. Of course once I arrived home I had no time and stopped reading it. That book is just going to have to wait for some time in the future when I'm able to concentrate and start over from the beginning. Currently I'm working on "Genome," which I've actually been working on over the course of about 5 years. I started it over again yesterday and I will finish this time! Does anyone else have this problem? Or do most people just give up on a book completely when it can't hold your interest for long enough? I just feel like there's so much great literature out there and I want to read all of it, but I don't have the time or patience.
